A MESSAGE FROM THE RIGHT WORSHIPFUL MASTER
Welcome to the Web site of Lodge Han Yang, no. 1048 in the Scottish Constitution!
We hope you will enjoy your visit and find something of value, if you are a researcher or student, one who is interested in Freemasonry, a visiting Brother from overseas, or a Han Yang Brother wishing to contact his Brethren. This benefit is particularly pertinent when one considers that the great majority of the Han Yang membership resides overseas, seeming that our lot in the Masonic scheme of things is to be a transitory lodge.
That said, Lodge Han Yang has a proud tradition as you will read in our history, that of being the longest-established Lodge in Korea, which celebrated its centenary two years ago, and one that covers periods of oppression and outright darkness as a result of colonization and war. The survival of Lodge Han Yang is testimony to the spirit of Scottish Freemasonry and the qualities it draws from the men who are drawn to her. Our long history has been intertwined with that of the Seoul Club which we have recently been pleased to sign an agreement of permanent tenancy.
No one type of person defines a Han Yang Mason; we represent a very broad demographic of both foreign residents and Korean citizens and we are the richer and stronger for it. In looking beyond national or other differences I believe Lodge Han Yang embodies the true spirit of Freemasonry, one I hope the visitor will quickly sense through reading these pages.
At the same time, I hasten to add that our Web site is very much a work in progress with new features being added constantly. One such a feature is a link to a member’s web log that details all Masonic activities in Korea as well as our own.
Therefore, I invite you to explore, discover and enjoy within our Web site and will hearty welcome any suggestions that you have to make.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Charles Duerden, RWM
